I forgot to add images before. This is a picture of Lyndsay and I talking to a woman at the Saturday morning "idea-exchange" session. It looks relatively small but if you were to turn the camera around, you would see a massive room with probably 600-900 people talking, walking around, and eating breakfast. It was cool to be a part of something so big.

San Antonio

Lyndsay and I had the opportunity to travel to San Antonio, Texas last weekend for the annual National Collegiate Honors Council Conference. We got to set up a table and talk to people about our work with Inches International. Conferences like these are cool because they bring together such interesting and intelligent people. It's a platform and gathering place for students and faculty to talk about their work or cool things they've been doing within their programs.

The best thing about selling bracelets at these things is that we get to talk to people in person. We get to explain what Inches is all about to people who, for the most part, really want to hear it. I love getting positive feedback. It encourages me a lot. The positive feedback isn't just in words either. We sold $150 worth of bracelets over the weekend. That creates enough proceeds to put a child and a half through one year of school. So in addition to getting people to think about the state of education on the other side of the world, we concretely raised enough money to fund a year a and a half of study. I think it also does a lot of good for people to see what two college students are capable of doing. Everybody can use a reminder every once in a while of their own potential.

One women called us "two little candles lighting the world." We had a good laugh at that. Sometimes it's weird hearing people say stuff like that. Don't get me wrong...I'm honored that somebody considers me a candle. It's just a lot to live up to I guess. I remember somebody else who said "when I grow up, I want to be just like you." The person who said that was in his fifties. It was a joke, but still a compliment. I guess these things are a little hard to hear because when I look at our organization, all I see are the holes and faults. I see where things fall apart and all the things we could be doing but aren't. When we go to conferences and presentations like this, we want to present ourselves and Inches in the best possible light.

Anyway, that was kind of a tangent. San Antonio was really cool. We got to see the Alamo and walk along the canal. We went to the Texas Institute of Culture and did some sweet line dancing. Lyndsay taught me the electric slide and another student, Anne, tried to show me the Texas two-step. It was a good trip. But I was glad to go home.

Okay, so this is kind of a test run. I'm pretty terrible at keeping the website up to date and I want people to be able to keep up with everything we're doing. So this is my solution...a blog. I hear they're really easy to update and maintain....hopefully that's true.

So here we go. I'm excited!
